y-o-n-i

tonight is the first night i'll be sleeping at my new apartment by myself. sarah is staying over at paul's place, so i'm all by lonesome. i'm sure it'll be fine, especially since her dog, kenai, is here too. i'm enjoying living in echo park so far, and i'm definitely loving our place. the other night i walked with donny and jordan to the echo for part time punks, which was pretty cool because i didn't have to bother with trying to find parking afterwards. parking can be kind of a pain sometimes, even though our landlord told us there is always good parking on our street. it's only good before 7, then after that chances are you'll have to park way the hell up the street. our landlord's name is sandy martin, and if you look her up on IMDB you'll see that she's an actress and has been acting since the 70's. i guess she would probably be best known for being in napolean dynamite, in which she played napolean's grandmother. she's really cool, but also kind of intimidating! anyways, i'm pretty happy with my living situation right now. also, i'm like 5 minutes away from nicole and esther even though i have yet to see either of them :)

my cousin invited me to go to this workshop that her friend had recommended she go to tonight at the white lotus, which is right across the street from the alcove. it was supposed to be a "relationships and divinity" workshop, but when i got there it turned out that the topic of the night was going to be about "tantra". the teacher was kind of kooky, one minute he was encouraging people to try orgies...then the next minute he would start talking about eating hamburgers at disney world. not only that, but he passed around a book called "the yoni" which apparently means "vagina" in a language i can't remember. he opened it to a section that had pictures of 4 different vaginas, and had us pass it down. i think the best part was when sarah had to pass it on to this weird awkward guy who was sitting next to her. the teacher also kept referring to vaginas as "lotus flowers". he lectured for about 2 hours, and towards the end all i could do was think about how much i wanted to run across the street to the alcove and get some food. part of me was scared that he was going to have each person stand up and start talking about their vaginas. luckily, that didn't happen. it wasn't bad though, he talked about a few other interesting things. i would probably go back for a lecture on a different topic.

guess it's time to try to get some sleep now...but before i go:

light emitting wallpaper?? yes, please! i love it, but i don't think it's available right now.

my pics from santacon are up and can be viewed HERE. There's also a million other pictures of santacon out there.

also check out this picture that someone posted. look past the santattorney, and in the background you'll spot a VERY jolly santa, haha. i had asked jeff to take a picture of me jumping in the air, but i guess someone was taking a picture of this guy at the same time from a different angle. all i know is that i was drunk as hell by this point. if you look in my hand you'll see a brown paper bag, and inside that bag was a flask (plastic flask!) filled with whiskey. i've never been a big fan of drinking liquor without any mixers, but i have to say that think i like whiskey now! it kept me nice and drunk for most of santacon, and i didn't get sick afterwards.

i'm planning on doing a little bday thing next saturday, the 22nd (actual bday is the 25th but that falls on a tuesday...oh well). i'm not really sure what it's going to be yet though. i need help deciding. either dinner and a bar, or dinner and a karoake room. the bar thing might be a little easier. but which bar?? does anyone have any suggestions? help a girl out! sarah mentioned "the griffin" but i've never been there. i heard it was cool though.

ne wayzzz. i started school at SMC a couple of weeks ago, and so far i'm having a blast. i actually like being in school. maybe it's because i'm more focused this time around and i know what i want to do. right now i'm taking interior design careers (which is a really interesting class) and interior illustrations. it's funny, because in my illustrations class i quickly learned that i can't draw to save my life. we sketched some dimensional cubes and i had a hard time with that. vanishing points are a pain in the ass, that's all i have to say. but practice makes perfect, so that's what i gotta do!

sarah and i have started a band (for real) and had our first practice tonight. we came up with some cool stuff and i'm looking forward to further developing this project. i'm kind of rusty on guitar because i don't ever really practice, so i guess i gotta get on that.

too sleepy to write anything else...but i'll end this by posting a video of one of my favorite carpenters songs. it's kind of kooky. i've been on a carpenters kick for the past couple of days. i love them!
<lj-embed id="2" />

while waiting in line at the post office on saturday, this guy who was behind me asked if i wanted a penny. he was in his 50s-60s i think, and had a little bit of a B.O. problem. up until we got near the front of the line he had been talking to the lady in front of me, so i was kind of caught off guard when he asked me. my response was "um, a penny?"...to which he then responded with "yes, would you bend over for a penny?". for a second i was standing there trying to decide whether to laugh or politely explain that it would take more than a penny for me to do that. at least a quarter, right guys?? anyways, i realized that he was talking about a penny that was on the ground near us, and that he was merely asking if i would put in that kind of effort to pick it up. i had to bite my lip to stop myself from laughing, because i knew he didn't mean it in a perverted way and that it just came out like that. it was just the random way that he blurted out the question, and the way that the two people in front of me abruptly stopped talking right afterwards that made it awkward. to make a short story even shorter, someone else picked up the penny and handed it to him while i picked up my package and was on my way.

how hungover was i on sunday?? damn! i think i had 5 beers at mikey's birthday party on saturday night and got really drunk. i say i "think" because after my third one i stopped counting. i also had not eaten anything since lunchtime that day so that made things worse. i woke up the next day with a pounding headache and feeling completely nausous. i forced myself to eat a veggie dog and felt a lot better after that. i didn't puke though! i put up some pictures on FLICKR for those who haven't seen them yet. i came to a realization that almost all of the pictures of me on there are drunken ones. i swear, i'm not always drunk!! i think the only ones where i'm sober are the ones that have my family in them. ne wayz...the party itself was really fun, with the exception of some idiots who decided they would say shitty things to people who definitely didn't deserve it. also, who knew that cross earrings were so stylish now! haha.

one of my favorite websites,COOL HUNTING, did a write up of my favorite artist YAYOI KUSAMA. it also includes a link to her offical website. i am hoping that sometime in the near future she has an exhibit in one of the museums here, so that i could go see her artwork in person.

with that i am now off to bed...

also, RIP lee hazlewood!

i took this picture today while waiting outside of a client's apartment. i happened to be glancing over the other names in the directory and made this hilarious discovery. sorry it's so small and blurry but i took the picture with the shitty camera on my phone. also, i had a hard time holding my hand steady while taking the pic, because i was too busy laughing:

that's right, there is an A. DICK and an S. DILL that live in the building. this almost beats the time when nicole and i were looking through a directory at another place, and someone's name came up as "a. anus". true story!! unfortunately, there is no picture of it!

G.L.O.W.

does anyone remember the show G.L.O.W. aka gorgeous ladies of wrestling? i used to love watching it when i was a kid. well last week i was at bar 107 with nicole, anh, dave and dennis and they were showing old episodes of WWF on the tv. for some reason, it made me think of that show. i looked it up on youtube and sure enough they had clips of G.L.O.W. on there. i totally forgot the intro had all the ladies in the ring, rapping and dancing. they don't show all of the wrestlers on here (i think usually they would just show whoever would be wrestling in that week's match) but it's hilarious. check it out, and try not to drool too much over corporal kelly:

<lj-embed id="1" />

tonight i went to go see earlimart play at the echoplex. it was my first time seeing a show there (and my first earlimart show) and it's pretty cool inside. when aaron espinoza jokingly said they were going to play all night, i secretly wished that they would because they were so awesome. the show was only 8 bucks, which was great! i also enjoyed sea wolf's set. it was the perfect way to end the day, considering that the rest of the day was SHITTY. i'm not going to go into details, mainly because i am so tired right now. i will just say, that yucca valley is not really a place i would want to visit again. it's about 2 hours away from la and in the middle of nowhere. maybe it was having to deal with a crazy lunatic client that made me dislike it so much.

anyway, my brain and body are telling me that it's time to go to sleep. the past couple of days have been absolutely exhausting.

mess up the mix, mix up the mess

damn, so tired right now. i went riding with tren way last night, and by the time i came home i was ready to die. i almost missed it too, i fell asleep at 6:30pm thinking i would wake up in time to get ready and be at tren way headquarters by 8. i didn't wake up until 7:40 and thought i wouldn't make it on time to ride out. fortunately, dennis called and said that everyone would wait for me...so i loaded up my bike and hauled ass over to eagle rock. it turns out i wasn't the only one they were waiting for, so i didn't feel too bad. i had a hard time with certain parts of the ride and by the end of the night i felt like i was going to pass out. that's what i get though, for being so out of shape! also, it didn't help that i was running on 4 hours of sleep and had spent most of the day driving around. i was exhausted before the ride even began! anyways, it was still fun and maybe someday i'll be able to ride up hills without whining like a baby!

speaking of babies...the other day nicole and i headed over the venice beach for an appointment. the client was a pregnant lady who wanted to have a roomier kitchen so that she could be comfortable moving around in it. at one point i overheard her talking on the phone about how she had been eating healthy for the sake of the baby. oh that's cool, i thought. a few minutes later, i saw her step outside...to smoke a cigarette! i saw her do this twice within the span of one hour. really now, what good is eating healthy when you're pregnant if you're just going to fuck up your baby by smoking cigarettes?

electrelane, one of my current favorite bands, is playing at the troubadour on may 31st. count me IN. i've never seen them play live before, so i'm pretty excited about this show. if anyone else is interested let me know!

i seriously need a haircut. i know i've been saying this for weeks now, but this time i mean it. the only thing is that i'm not really sure what kind of haircut to get, or how much to chop off. in any case, it's time for something different. i just don't know what style yet!

the aqua teen hunger force movie comes out tomorrow, and i KNOW i'm not alone in wanting to see this. right?? hopefully not.

i'll end this post by saying that i think i'm going to name my bike after kimmy gibler, the wacky friend on "full house". nicole also suggested laura winslow. i haven't decided yet.

bubblegum and taffy

i copied this from my myspace blog, mainly because i was too lazy to type something different for lj.

yesterday afternoon, nicole and i were at synergy cafe in culver city after our afternoon appointment. we were waiting for the rush hour traffic to die down, so we were there for maybe 3 hours. While she and i were talking, she pointed out that i had blood in my eye. that freaked me out so i ran to the bathroom and sure enough i discovered that part of my eyeball was bloody. i guess it was a popped blood vessel, which i found out later is nothing to worry about. i didn't know that at the time, and the sight of seeing my bloody eyeball was too much to bear and i found myself having a bad panic attack. i've never had one before so you can imagine how fun it was for me. all of a sudden i felt really dizzy, weak and extremely nauseous. my heart started beating really fast and i thought i was going to pass out. to make things worse, i couldn't breathe either. i ended up kneeling on the floor trying to calm down and at the same time trying not to throw up. after a few minutes i tried to pull myself together and went back to our table. No good though, because I ended up running back into the bathroom and throwing up. after that i felt a tad bit better but i still felt shaky and weak. we went outside for fresh air and i had to put my head down on the table and take deep breaths. nicole calmed me down a bit and afterwards i felt totally exhausted, like i had just run a marathon or something. i headed home, took out my contacts (while avoiding looking at the bad eye!) and lied down for awhile. it's crazy because you'd think that something like that wouldn't cause that kind of reaction. i get really squeamish with things like that, especially with eye stuff. remember that scene in kill bill 2, when uma thurman yanks darryl hannah's eye right out of the socket then proceeds to step on it? oh hell to the no, i always have to look away during that scene. yes yes, i am a big wuss. needless to say, I'm going back to wearing glasses for a few days.

or maybe i should wear an eyepatch, i haven't decided yet. maaaybe i'll wear an eyepatch under my glasses, or better yet, over my glasses. that would look great!

panic at the roller disco (haa haa)

i feel like my body is broken. last night was roller disco, which was a lot of fun. unfortunately for me, i broke my streak of not falling while roller skating. not only did i fall once, but i ended up falling a total of 3 times. also, jeff skated on my hair right after i fell the first time. i woke up today feeling sore with 2 bruised knees and hurting wrists. i guess downing a shot of jagermeister, followed by a vodka and cranberry, before skating wasn't the best idea in the world. that doesn't mean it won't happen again though! hehe.

why is my car being so difficult lately? first my stereo speakers go out on me, so i can't listen to music while i drive (and i'm ALWAYS driving). now the damn thing won't start. i'm guessing it's the battery, since it's about 5 years old. hopefully it's not the starter. i hope it's not because i didn't have a chance to put gas in it last night. i would feel kind of dumb taking it in, just to find out it needs gas.

tuesday will mark my first bike ride with the tren way bike gang. i'm a little nervous, seeing as i've only ridden my bike twice. i'm also excited, since i've heard nothing but good things about the bike rides from nicole and dennis.

here's a really cool poster for the upcoming aqua teen hunger force movie:

is anyone else as excited as i am for this?? i think it was supposed to come out in march, but they pushed it back to april. dammit.

i am going to go watch "the shield around the K: the story of K records" now, since i received it from netflix over the weekend.

how long can you hold your wii?

I can't believe that I am not sleeping yet, considering that we have an appointment at 8am tomorrow in Irvine. I guess I can sleep after work! Just wanted to post these two videos:

the first video is of my cousin cheryl playing the wario game for nintendo wii. it was too funny to not post, and i figured she never ever reads my livejournal so it's ok to put it up here. she didn't know i was recording her playing, until towards the end when i told her. you can see her react to that at the end of the video :)
also, note the justin timberlake poster that my cousin's girlfriend has up on the wall.

the second video is of us playing wii boxing. i have to say, i'm actually pretty good at it! it makes me feel tired after i play, but that's because i get about zero amounts of exercise a day. however, i love it so much that i might actually end up getting one! i know it's close to impossible to get a wii right now, but i'm willing to wait a little longer. this time, note the angelina jolie poster hanging up on the wall.
oh shit, i got tagged :)

i didn't see that i got tagged by ms. sandra until today so here goes:

RULES: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks.

1. when i am feeling down i like to watch the lord of the rings trilogy. it helps me feel better for some reason. also, they are just really awesome movies.

2. as a kid i used to watch willy wonka and the chocolate factory twice a day. not all of these are going to be movie related, i swear.

3. in fourth grade i got a big fat F in math. this was probably because i never did my math homework.

4. my cousin gen and i once found a box of condoms while snooping around in our grandmother's bedroom. notice how i did not say a "full" box of condoms.

5. i touched stephen malkmus's boxers once.

6. i've kept all my ticket stubs from every concert i've ever been to, starting from a new kids on the block show my mom took me to in 1987.

7. i went to see nirvana play in 1993 with my mom. i also went to lollapalooza 94 with my mom.

8. i had a "boyfriend" when i was in junior high for about a week. after i decided i didn't like him anymore, i sent my friend to break up with him for me.

9. when pavement broke up i cried. for real.

10. my dad has been a hare krishna since he was a teenager and used to make me go to chants with him when i would visit him on the weekends. it was fine when i was really young, but as i got older i hated it. one time he gave me a book about krishna and i realized that it was the same book he gave to me as a kid, just a different edition.

that's it! i don't know how to link to other ljs so i'll just type the names of the people i am "tagging".

JEFF, NICOLE, JACKIE, KRISTY, AND ANH!! do it!!

here's something funny that i read about on bravotv's website:

"Martha Stewart recently confided to Howard Stern, on his Sirius Satellite show, that she uses a $1,200 vibrator for … well … what vibrators are often used for. And she says of the device: “It’s a very good tool.”"

first, did anyone really want to know this about martha stewart? second, a $1,200 vibrator?? is it made out of gold or something? geez.

yesterday i spent about 6 hours at panera bread. my cousin needed to go online to do her registry for her baby shower, so we headed over there for some lunch and free internet access. i didn't think we were going to be there for that long, but it was nice to just sit, hang out and relax. i brought my knitting stuff and knitted away while she used my laptop. i came close to finishing a scarf that i have been working on (because scarves are the only thing i know how to make right now!) until i realized i didn't have enough yarn to complete it.

i'm tired of having a cold. i've had one ever since santacon last weekend (which was awesome!) and i'm still coughing and phlegmy. ho hum.

senior citizens love sonic youth too!

i found this video on pitchfork's website and thought it was one of the coolest things ever. it's a group of senior citizens called young@heart doing a cover of sonic youth's "schizophrenia". they do a pretty good job with it too.

the young@heart version:

sonic youth version:

by the way, santacon is tomorrow and i STILL don't have a santa costume!! i think it's safe to say that my whole day will be spent scrambling to get ready for this event. i'm excited because i heard so many good things about santacon last year. come on, hundreds of santas roaming around los angeles...who wouldn't want to be a part of that??

i can't believe...

that i almost missed pre-ordering the reissue of pavement's "wowee zowee" album! the deadline to order is today, and if you pre-order it you also get a free 7" and a poster. not only that, but you get an email from matador records that contains a code that will allow you to download a rare concert from april 1994 at the palace. that's good for me, because back when they played that show i really really wanted to go but was not allowed to. anyways, i ordered mine from INSOUND if anyone wants to do the same :)

a couple of quick things worth mentioning:

1) an elvis party. my whole family threw a surprise bday party for my aunt on saturday. not only was it a surprise party, but it was an elvis themed surprise party. my aunt loooooves elvis so we decorated with elvis banners and elvis tablecloths. my uncle even emerged from his room dressed as elvis at one point, which was probably one of the funniest things i've ever seen. the cool thing is my cousin was able to score a life size cardboard cut-out of elvis at her work. one of her co-workers was cleaning out one of the rooms in their building and found it and gave it to her. talk about perfect timing. my aunt loved it and after the party could not bare to part with it so she brought it home.

2) on sunday i headed over to la crescenta for my weekly drum lesson. there i was, innocently sitting behind the drum set listening to my drum teacher (who we'll refer to as "nathan zuzow") explain double stroke rolls when all of a sudden i was struck in the head by a flying drumstick. apparently while showing demonstrating the double stroke rolls on the other set, the drumstick accidentally (at least, i hope so!) flew out of his hand and decided to fly towards my head. although this totally caught me by surprise, i was not able to stop laughing about it for about 5 minutes after it happened.

halloween is tomorrow, and i still don't have a costume.

put down the moneybags

as some of you know, last month someone had managed to steal a big chunk of money out of my bank account. somehow they were able to make withdrawals through different atms. the only thing is that i never lost my atm card, so i didn't know how they were able to do that. anyways i filed a claim with bank of america, and they put the money back in my account while they did a "thorough investigation". i thought everything was fine until i received a letter from them on friday, stating that "after conducting a thorough investigation of the above reference claim, it has been determined that no error has occured in this instance." they also let me know that they would be reversing the claim and pulling the money back OUT of my account. riiiiiight. i called them and told them it wasn't fair that they would be taking money that was rightfully mine and that they needed to do another "investigation". the guy i talked to was really nice and helpful so i'm glad i didn't have to get crazy on him! he informed me that the reason they didn't believe me was because i had never lost my card to which i replied "i know i never lost my card, but i never pulled that money out of my account". seriously, why would i pull out all my money from my account knowing that i had pending transactions that were going to go through? dumb. i also told him i wasn't gonna stop calling until this was taken care of. luckily i called them today to check on the status of this situation, and it turns out that after another "thorough investigation" they believe me now and won't be taking the money back. i was really happy about that, because they were going to try and take $600 from me! the whole thing is scary though, having someone withdraw my money without using my card. now whenever i swipe my card anywhere i feel slightly uneasy about using it. something i'll just have to get over, i guess!

lots of fun stuff has taken place over the past few months, aside from being a victim of fraud. i started a new job in july working with nicole. so far i'm really enjoying it, and even though our job requires us to drive around los angeles and costa mesa i really don't mind. i'm all about learning design stuff, and next week i'll be starting my architectural drafting class. it's wierd because i haven't been in school at all for a gajillion years (or maybe just 5), but i'm looking forward to it. i'll probably end up taking more than one class next semester, but for now one is a good start.

what else? hmm...well i've been taking drum lessons, which i love! nathan has been kind enough to give me drum lessons every week, and he has me pay him with green tea lemonades from starbucks (which i'm totally addicted to, myself).

some other fun things worth mentioning: the fuck yeah fest (2 days in a row!), going to the ucb theater every wednesday for cagematch, midnight movies shows, a free neil hamburger show (where we got to see him throw drinks at some drunk idiot who kept heckling him), skeletonwitch (a metal band that opened for neil hamburger, and who started off songs with lines such as "this is a song about SATAN!" or my personal favorite "this is not a song about satan, this is a song about VAMPIRES!!"), nicole's bday party, and the wally george comedy show that took place on friday was completely awesome too.

so much more, but too much to write in one lj entry!

lost lost lost

so it's been a bajillion years since i last updated this thing, and for awhile i forgot it existed. until now that is! so what is the special occasion for this post? a nice little celebrity sighting that almost made me pee my pants today.

by now pretty much everyone knows that i am a LOST fanatic. i can't help but love this damn show. i even bought the LOST official magazine. if that's not geeky, then i don't know what is. anyways, today was my work's monthly department lunch, and it just happened to be at the warehouse in marina del rey. while we were chowing down on appetizers, one of my co-workers asked if anyone watches LOST. thinking that she wanted to talk about the show, i told her i did. she then pointed out that one of the cast members from the show was a couple of tables over from us. i looked over, and saw that it was josh holloway aka sawyer who is known as the "sexy" one.

i freaked the fuck out and got really excited...to the point where my co-workers told me to calm down. to make a long story short i ended up getting his autograph, but was told NO PICTURES by his wife, who was actually kind of mean about it. sawyer looked like he would have taken the picture with me, but when his wife said no he looked at me and smiled apologetically and said "yeah i'm sorry, no pictures" but in a "i really would have done it if my wife hadn't said no" kind of way. i'm glad she was the bitchy one and that he was the super nice one, because it would have ruined it for me if he was mean. here's a picture of the autograph:

and for those who are wondering (and care), he's just as hot in person as he is on the show.

on a totally different subject, a couple of weekends ago i hung out with my cousin in SF and her roommate jeff (not to be confused with jeff "inflatablesheep" lashway). everytime i've gone up there i've never really had any sort of conversation with jeff other than "hi, how are you?". imagine my shock when my cousin and i were in the kitchen and he comes in acting very strangely and obviously on something. it turns out that he had done 5 hits of LSD and was really tripping out. now, i've never even done one hit of LSD and probably never will, so i can't imagine what 5 would be like. here are some of the amusing things he did and said while on this oh so wonderful drug:

a) asked to use my cellphone because he didn't have one, then later on came out of his room with his cellphone. so apparently he did have one. he proceeded to try to get me to call a number that would allow me to "reach the dark side"
b) drooled coffee all over his shirt when laughing at a joke only he understood, then took his sunglasses off and used the drool soaked part of his shirt to wipe the sunglasses.
c) told my friend stephen, who was hanging out with us, that he wanted to give his blood to him and in return get his blood so that they could both survive.
d) went into his room and came out wearing an indiana jones hat, along with a looooooong hand knitted gray scarf and a stuffed snake around his neck.
d) left the apartment to walk around the streets of SF while banging on a drum.

nice. anyhoo, i'm off now to play with the new super mario bros game i bought tonight for the ds.
